NelsonDaly is an agency that connects architects, designers, and design-driven companies to media opportunities. We provide marketing consulting, communications, competition advising, content strategy and media management. Our team is devoted to supporting, engaging, and broadcasting the work of emerging and multi-disciplinary architects, artists, and designers.

MEARA DALY //

Meara is a founding partner of NelsonDaly. She has over 25 years of experience in all areas of media relations, marketing, and strategic development with a focus on quality, targeted design stories. As the lead partner at ND, she has collaborated with established and emerging architecture and design practices including Bestor Architecture, Hood Design Studio, Design, Bitches, and AUX Architecture. Prior to founding ND she was a marketing consultant with Kevin Daly Architects, Gensler and Form Zero Bookstore + Gallery in Los Angeles and was the marketing director for Leers Weinzapfel Associates in Boston.

KATHERINE NELSON //

Katherine is a communications consultant and founding partner of NelsonDaly. She believes that storytelling lies at the heart of the creative process. She is passionate about helping clients hone their own narrative to reach new levels of opportunity and growth. Katherine has worked in many facets of the media and design worlds as an editor, book author, PR consultant and Marketing Director for interior design firm NICOLEHOLLIS. She began her editorial career at Harper’s Bazaar and later Metropolitan Home magazines and did freelance writing for publications including Wall Street Journal, Metropolis and The New York Times. Her book, New Scandinavian Design, was published by Chronicle Books.

JEN LATHROP //

Jen joined NelsonDaly in January 2022. She brings 20 years of experience leading business development, marketing, and communications for internationally recognized architectural design practices. Prior to joining NelsonDaly, Jen was a Principal and Director of Business Development at Michael Maltzan Architecture in Los Angeles for over ten years. Previously she worked with Randall Stout Architects and Perkins & Will Los Angeles.

 

What We Do

The design world is evolving and our services reflect a new way of thinking about design marketing and connecting with the media. We can assist with: media management, marketing, proposal writing, social media and creative content strategies.

 
 

  • Develop media plans and guide media placement in leading local and national architecture, design, and consumer publications

    Develop press kits

    Develop talking points for interviews

    Coordinate pitching and outreach

    Field incoming press requests

    Manage media placements, interviews, photography (if needed)

    Coordinate with writers, journalists, editors and photo editors

    Develop targeted media lists

    Provide media training and interview preparation and strategy

  • Identify key messaging and story-telling

    Evaluate creative content needs

    Craft mission and vision statements and bios

    Refine and align messaging across web, social media, email marketing and press outreach

    Align messaging across marketing/business development/architectural teams

  • Workshops & Evaluations

    Review, develop, produce, and recommend formats for marketing collateral (resumes, project sheets, project lists, brochures, web content, etc.).

    Assist with outreach to conferences

    Review and assist with awards submittals

    Assist with the development of websites from content to finding a designer

    Review firm marketing strategy and evaluate and recommend processes and guidelines for firmwide marketing resources

    Provide strategic input and content and curate proposals and presentations that reflect distinguishing features of the firm

    Assist with the writing of a job description for Marketing roles within a firm

    Assist with the search for a marketing coordinator or director (as best fits the firm)
